Who (author) would you meet, if you could?

So I had this great interview today on Words by Webb: http://jodiwebb.com/interviews/5ws-with-eric-trant/, in which Jodi asked me her 5Ws.

Here is the first:

WHO
If you could meet any author, who would you like to meet? Why them and what would you say?

I would meet Ray Bradbury. We would meet not in life but in some other dimension on the planet Mars, in his bionical and maniacal House of Usher II remix with the robots serving us and the great ape destroying our guests while everyone laughs. Something Wicked would Come our Way, and we would ponder how the Martians used to look and whether the Earth would blow up and if anyone would even notice, and if they did notice, would they care. I would walk with him on the wettest, driest, farthest planets, and we would launch into space while we Sang the Body Electric and drew the Illustrated Man on the inside of our visors. I cannot claim to have read or even discovered all of his works, but we would discuss every one, and he might ask me about mine and not laugh.

Just wanted to share that, in case anyone was wondering. WHO WOULD YOU MEET? If it's Vonnegut or Heinlein or Azimov or Clarke or one of similar status, let me know so I can go with you.

So many to choose from. For fiction, I'd want to meet C.S. Lewis. I want more Narnia stories. For non-fiction, I'd want to meet Gary Chapman, author of the Five Love Languages. That book is so life changing in terms of relationships and I'd want an hour or two to hear what else he knows.

Ray Bradbury's a fab choice!

I would struggle to choose. There are so many! Plus I don't know whether I'd like to meet an author I admire but don't know personally or one of you guys because how awesome would that be?

I think my answer is ALL OF THE AUTHORS. I want to meet all of them. :)

I've answered that question on my blog with my ghostly conversations with Samuel Clemens, Oscar Wilde, William Faulkner, and of course, the feisty Ernest Hemingway!

Diane's mention of C S Lewis is a very good choice -- I love his essays.

Great idea for a post and well done, too!

Diane: Would love to meet Lewis. I re-read some Narnia last year as way of review. Amazing.

Mia: All of them! Now that would be some kind of party, eh, mixing Poe and Lovelace into the same room as some of the softer sorts.

Roland: Oh, I know all about who you'd meed and what you'd say and what they'd say, and I can say with some authority that we'd all be huddled around your table listening to that exchange with tight-lipped mouths and sharp ears.

I'd also love to meet C.S. Lewis, or Alexandre Dumas, or Victor Hugo. Or Oscar Wilde...

Yeah I'm just going to stop before your eyes glaze over. ;-)

Well, first, I love that you want to meet him, but not even in the real world. So, since I'm a children's writer, I want to meet a children's author of course. I would love to pick the brain of J. K. Rowling and have her teach me about plotting and world building. And I would like to do this over a glass of Butter Beer at Hogwarts.

Ray Bradbury is a beautiful choice. I can't think of anyone else beside him who would be more fun to meet and talk with. I think he had a wonderful imagination. :)

I hope you've been well.

Hugs to you.

Richard Bach! He's a helluva writer and his views on life expanded this Rebel's world exponentially. I still can't watch Disney's "The Kid" without wondering if they paid him royalties for stealing his storyline from "Running From Safety". I'd like to ask him in person. And so much more. All the better if Leslie (his wife and soulmate) comes with.

BTW, I had a chance to meet Ray on more than one occasion but was too shy and starstruck to do it. In his later years he would do readings at the Barnes & Noble in Westlake Village, CA, near where I lived. I'm a schmuck for not going. Now it's too late.
