Back to the HOUSE OF PAIN!

So I bought a Kindle last week. I know, I've railed on the little electro-beast, how it is actually more expensive and less convenient than a book, but now that I went over, now that I indulged, now that I dropped $200 bucks on an Amazon Kindle 3G, I have to admit that I love that little knucker.

It hasn't left my side. I'm afraid I'll leave it in the potty and my son will drop it in the toilet. He's one year old next week. My wife warned me, she said, You better not leave that Kindle in the bathroom like you did your books. Daz (that's our son) is going to drop it in the toilet.

So I try not to leave the Kindle in the potty. I think I'll miss that the most, leaving books laying around the house, next to the bed, at my desk, in the car.

But I was wrong about the convenience of a Kindle. Boy was I wrong. I downloaded some free books from the local library and finally bought the first book in the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series. I returned the other three library books after the first chapter -- the first few pages, actually, I didn't make it any farther -- but I did make it through an old HG book called The Island of Doctor Moreau. I forgot how creepy that book is.

BACK TO THE HOUSE OF PAIN! ARE WE NOT MEN!

The point is, I'm hooked on the e-book. I'm not sure how short or long-lived this little obsession may be -- perhaps the novelty will wear off after I drop it and it shatters into a hundred tiny Kindle-bits, each bit worth approximately $75 USD, with one large piece worth just over a $100.

Anyway. Off to read my new Kindle! Maybe now I can finally get caught up on some of Roland Yeoman's books. Dude, you are a writing machine! (He's on Amazon, FYI, just over 10 books and counting.)

My husband swears he'll never buy another print book again. Glad you're enjoying your Kindle. My inlaws want a tablet device but think the ipad is too high. Saw that there's to be a Nook version of the Kindle Fire out two days later and I think that's the best bet for them. (They are B&N fans.)

Eric, I'm glad you are enjoying your Kindle. You know I am giving away a Kindle Fire for my contest : post a review of one of VICTOR STANDISH's 2 books, and you'll get 5 entries. Post on your blog about old Victor and get five more!

Thanks for mentioning me. I was feeling a bit forgotten what with NoNoNanettes as the ghost of Ernest Hemingway calls NaNoWriMo!

John Locke says you have to have a backlist of novels to take advantage if people start to like your writing. I took his advise to heart!

I hope you enjoy your Kindle to the fullest! Roland

I love and hate my Kindle both. I like packing around all those books in one thin device; but when I'm really enjoying a story, I really miss the "book" effect.

I haven't tried the library thing yet - I've never been a library reader cuz I don't like reading on a time limit. But truthfully, I haven't really figured out my Kindle features except downloading a book. *sighs* I need some time to read in general, let alone figure out instruction manuals.

I've been meaning to ask you: how did you get AHL3 downloaded to the Kindle? Would you e-mail me?

Oh, I meant to say the Amazon support department is great. My friend broke his twice, and they replaced it free both times (during the first year). He's more careful now. If I had your email address, I would send you free THE LEGEND OF VICTOR STANDISH. Roland

I'm "old-fashioned" but I LOVE my Kindle (and my Nook, an earlier version), and I'm getting my daughter Kindle Fire for Christmas.

I love the convenience of the devices. I love the lower prices (usually) of the books so I can buy more than I could in print. (And my memoir is selling great on the Kindle.) I've read that the eReader isn't good for the eyes, but I think it is. For one thing, I can increase the font size!

And I have yet to drop one of the devices in the toilet or break one :o) !!

I say to you, Eric: welcome to the world of eReaders!!!

I want a Kindle. Really really. After I started blogging, I realize just how many books I'm missing out on. But the kindle is expensive by my living standards because of the exchange rate. :-(

My guy and I share a Kindle after joining a Sci-Fi book club (and you know how damn big THOSE books are) and realizing that instead of buying two copies of the same book every month for approximately $24.99, we could buy an e-version for $9.99 and have one person read it on the Kindle and one person read it on the computer while at work (that would be me.) It has worked out great.

But poetry books are sacred and I still buy them as paper books. Some things you just can't change.

Dude! First off, I like the new look. Not sure I like it better than the old one, but I like it.

Second, I'm not doing it. I'm not, I'm not, I'm NOT! I've downloaded a few books on the free Kindle app on my laptop. And hate it. I've got to get back to El's book, which is really good, but because I hate the old e-thing so much...

It's a love affair, you see. It has to do with the tangibleness, with the smell, the touch, the lack of electricity boring through my brain.

Yeah. I'm not doing it.

Love that you succombed, though. Sucka! :)

Happy Christmas, that rebel, Olivia
