My Author Interview

Here's my author interview with Open Heart Publishing and their forthcoming anthology. They're publishing another of my shorts, entitled One Small Step. Feel free to visit and comment!

Here's a snippet:

OHP: In your opinion, which is the more important discovery of humankind… plumbing or the written word?

E.T.: A combination of both, actually. One gives you the means to accomplish your personal business in private. The other gives you something with which to wipe.

Hilarious. Love that quote and the photo is gorgeous. The light, the light! You drinking moonshine out of that mason jar?

Thanks!

That's dark beer in the mason jar, Shiner Bock (a Texas beer).

You should use that as your profile pic.

Your novel's hook-line was awesome! And the comment about plumbing and writing was classic.

I've never been called a nemesis before...at least not out loud. =) Your comments were kind as were his. Thank you.

Congratulations on publication and I hope to see the Gladiator/Soldier's Son on the shelves soon!

Awesome job, Eric.

That was a great interview! Lots of fun questions :)

Congrats on being pubbed again!

I just read your interview. I was so impressed I copied it into a word document to read again.

It's easy to leave a snippet on a post. But sometimes you want to say something deeper, more meaningful. I feel that way here, after reading about you as a writer and a family man.

You say you're heading into your forties. Looking back, I can see how this is one of the best ages--you've lived long enough to get some experience that you can use in life and writing. The next best age for the mind, I'm discovering is 70! You have that ahead of you, and being a grandparent.

I'm interested in reading your work!

Well, you answered that snarky remark: is that moonshine or sun tea in the mason jar?

Love the pix. And the snippet.

I'm so pleased you've gotten another one published. Now I'm off to read the interview.

Congratulations, Eric. There you are in living color. Hey there!

So now I know about the worms. I wondered. I love the plug you made for us bloggers. And especially for Raquel. So cool.

She may not recall but I remember you called her your nemesis in a blog comment somewhere along the line. Geez, too much stuff stuck in my head.

Great interview. One question, though. You talked about your kids and your dogs. But did I miss the part about your wife? Bet you got a big smack in the head for that. If not, I'll do it for her. SMACK!

Congratulations! that rebel, Olivia

Dude: that was probably the best author interview I've ever read. Seriously!

You have so many intriguing views - well this is the best, naturally: Entertain me. That’s all I want to do. I don’t want to make a statement, though I would like to modify your view of the world, just a little.

I can't remember all of the parts that thrilled me, made me comtemplate the world at large. But I like the premise of ONE SMALL STEP. I like stories that challenge my world view, offer alternates, and leave me thoroughly enlightened and entertained.

Yes Eric, I can see you as the STEPHEN KING replacement. Your writing ideology is the same. But more modern, more complicated. Ok; fresher. I also approve of Ramsey Campbell as a writing inspiration. Thumbs way up there.

I have to agree with your assertion that NASA is pretty much irrelevant. I mean (you mean) nothing has really been accomplished in the space travel arena, so why keep pouring money into a dead project. I'd love to see it revitalized - hey, you have an engineering degree, right? When are you going to kick some government butt?

Well, at least I can read about your world views. And yes, I know I will be satisfactorily entertained :)

I tried to comment at the OHP site, but I couldn't figure out how to sign up as follower or commenter with anything but Twitter. I don't tweet yet - may never feel the urge.

But I wanted to let you know that I do want to buy the first anthology, and this one when it comes out. I'm sure there is a lot of decent authors in it, but let me just say "I'm your number one groupie!"

Well, maybe I'll have to wrestle Raquel for the title . .

You all have a way of making me feel bigger. Thank you SO MUCH for the heartfelt comments. I wasn't expecting anyone to actually ~read~ that interview...

If interested, anyone can buy the first anthology here for only $3.00 US, e-book. Mine is Apple Tree, a story about two boys making a mythical discovery, and there are some other really cool stories in there. I'm not sure if Situational Dyslexia isn't the most original short I've ever read.

My wife took that picture of me at our local bar. The lake's behind me a few hundred yards. The beer's a Shiner Bock -- as always -- that or a Black-n-Tan. I was goofing off and told her to get a money shot of me with her phone and I went repose and she clicked and it weren't half-bad.

See, she's beautiful like that. She brings out the best side of me.

I noticed that I forgot to mention her in my interview, namely yesterday when I read it to her. I guess it's sort of like mentioning me as part of my family. I don't think of us as two separate people. We've been inseparable from the moment we met, and I mean the moment we met. I picked her up in a bar on Thursday, June 30, 2005, and the next night we were in Austin getting tattoos.

We can't even break up. Believe me, we tried to break up, several times, and it just doesn't work. We're much better together.

So there. I mentioned her. I'd probably better let her read this part, eh.

Fantastic interview. Really enjoyed some of the obervations about indoor plumbing, black and tans, etc.

Eric, is it possible to purchase the book in print format? If so, do you have a link?

Congrats on the publication Eric! That's wonderful news to hear! I'm thinking of digging out some of my old short stories to clean them up and submit - to hold me over until my novels are ready for submission. Congrats again!

Eric: I went to order my paperback from the site and was informed that there "is no carrier that will deliver to this address." I live in a rather large city in the USA, so I'm a bit confused.

Helps us?

You can email me at mesmerix AT gmail DOT com if it's easier. Sorry to keep bugging you about this.

Eric, congrats on getting your story published. As someone who's read a sample of your novel, I can imagine the beautiful writing that you put into your story as well.

Btw, Ditto on that Stephen King quote.

"Red is the color my brother and I use in our business. It's a power color. Red don't apologize, so don't say you're sorry for picking it."

This is what you said on my blog on Unwinding where I changed the template and color. I like what you said. I'll remember this. I'm really a shy person at heart, but you've got to be "powerful" to get your book out to the public. Right? So I won't apologize, and when I think about changing the template again, I won't. I'm staying with red. I also commented above; I've since changed my picture, as of today, so I'll look more like the real me when the brown color in my hair goes away!!

Hope you and your family had a lovely weekend.

I deleted the last one because I hate typos.

Now, I think you show incredible wisdom with your answer in that interview.

Having something to wipe with is very important.
