Duotrope now a pay-site!

Duotrope is now a PAID SUBSCRIBER ONLY site.

For those of you who did not use Duotrope, it is a site where publishers and agents advertise for submissions. For those who used Duotrope when it was free, you know it is a great source for writers.

I wonder if they will improve. I wonder if they will survive. I wonder if I will still use Duotrope.

I wonder what other resources are out there.

To my writer-friends, were you aware of this, and are you still going to use Duotrope services? What other FREE resources writers can use?

I didn't know about it. I guess it's sensible to charge for a service, but....

Sorry, Eric, you were next on the list and have been 'tagged', details on my blog, just ignore if this is a turn off. Carole.

I haven't used Duotrope in a while. I liked it fine, but the last couple years I've been collecting publishing sites from my fellow bloggers. I learn more about the publishers and their acceptable content from people I know who have submitted. I guess you could consider that a free resource :)

I've never used it but I heard it wasn't going to be free anymore.

Does Query Tracker offer something similar? Sorry, never used that one either.

I haven't used Duotrope, but it sounds like a cool site. Too bad it costs now. I personally like Twitter for interacting with agents/authors/everybody. I found both my critique group and my agent through Twitter!

Judging from the comments here I'd have to predict that it won't survive, because as Donna says, It's all out there for free anyway. Although their fee is so small at $5 a month that I imagine the people who really use it and benefit from it will continue. So maybe it will survive but not thrive?
